Barefoot Shoes — buyer questions
Why can a factory not just make a thinner version of a normal shoe?
Because a barefoot shoe needs its own last and its own outsole tooling. A thinned-down running shoe keeps the narrow forefoot and the heel-to-toe drop built into the original last, which is exactly what a barefoot wearer is buying the shoe to avoid. We have dedicated barefoot lasts and outsole tooling, which is why this category is on our page at all.
How do you hold zero drop through production?
Zero drop is easy to state and easy to lose: if midsole or footbed thickness drifts, the drop drifts with it. We measure stack height at both heel and forefoot on the confirmed production sample, and again during production, rather than trusting the spec sheet.
How wide should a wide toe box be?
It is a last-shape decision, not a pattern tweak, because forefoot volume and the toe outline both have to be built into the last. Send us a reference shoe or a foot-outline tracing and we will match the shape; matching a competitor’s stated width number alone rarely reproduces the same feel.
Do thin, flexible soles hold up in wear?
That is the real risk in this category, and it is why we flex-test finished shoes. A thin sole has to keep flexing without the outsole delaminating at the joint, so bond strength matters more here than on a cushioned shoe. We would rather change the adhesive system at sampling than deal with field returns later.
Can you make barefoot shoes for children?
Yes, the same principles graded onto children’s lasts, where forefoot room matters most. Children’s ranges also carry the strictest market compliance (small parts, azo dyes, phthalates), so plan the testing in from the start; see our kids footwear page for that side of it.
Do you offer OEM and ODM?
Both. With OEM we build to your design and specs; with ODM we develop new designs with you from concept. We also do private-label branding, labels and packaging.
