Hiking & Outdoor Shoes — buyer questions
How is a waterproof hiking boot actually built waterproof?
A breathable membrane bootie is built into the upper and every seam that could let water in is taped or sealed. Waterproofness then depends on three things that are easy to get wrong: the bootie construction, the seam sealing, and the bond where upper meets sole. We test water-tightness on the finished boot, not on the material swatch — a membrane that passes on its own can still leak through a badly sealed seam.
What outsole compound and lug pattern suit our terrain?
Softer rubber grips better on wet rock but wears faster; harder compounds last longer on hardpack and gravel. Lug depth and spacing decide mud clearing — deep, widely spaced lugs shed mud, shallow closely spaced lugs give more contact on rock. Tell us the dominant terrain and the wear expectation and we tool to that; the compound and pattern together are what produce traction, not either alone.
Do you develop custom outsole moulds for hiking boots?
Yes. Typical tooling runs 3D structural design (1–3 days), wooden model (3–5 days), mould cutting in aluminium or steel (20–25 days) and trial moulding (1–3 days) — roughly 25–36 days in total. Tooling is in China, based in Quanzhou and at partner tooling bases elsewhere in the country. Because tooling is the long pole, it should start as soon as the sole geometry is agreed, in parallel with upper sampling.
How do you handle sizing and fit for hiking footwear?
Hiking fit has to allow for thicker socks, foot swell over distance and toe clearance on descent, so the last is not simply a scaled sneaker last. We develop or modify the last to your fit brief, sample in your reference size first, then grade the full size run and confirm fit at the extremes of the curve rather than only at the middle.
What do you test before hiking boots ship?
Water-tightness on waterproof builds, outsole abrasion and traction, whole-boot bond strength, cold-temperature flex where the market needs it, and eyelet and hardware pull strength. Testing is against the approved production sample, with third-party lab reports through accredited labs when required.
Do you offer OEM and ODM?
Both. With OEM we build to your design and specs; with ODM we develop new designs with you from concept. We also do private-label branding, labels and packaging.
Are you a factory or a trading company?
We are a footwear trading & manufacturing partner — our own factory plus a selected partner-factory network, with product development, quality control and export handled in-house. You get factory pricing with the service of a sourcing partner.
