What a safety boot manufacturer does

The same logic applies to anti-penetration protection: a steel midplate is proven and cheap; a textile (non-metallic) midplate is lighter, more flexible and covers more of the sole.

Other protections to specify

  • Anti-slip outsoles — tested to SRA/SRB/SRC on different floors and contaminants.
  • Anti-static / ESD — controlled resistance for electronics and fuel environments.
  • Metatarsal guards — extra impact protection over the top of the foot.
  • Heat / oil / fuel resistance — outsole compounds rated for the hazard.

Construction and materials

Safety boots are usually direct-injection (a PU or PU/rubber sole moulded and bonded to the upper for a strong, sealed joint) or cemented for lighter styles. Uppers are full-grain leather, nubuck or high-abrasion synthetics; midsoles are PU or dual-density PU/EVA for all-day support.
